    Hi all-
I'm hosting the next dessert exchange. I'm also stopping my Year of Cake a month early; 1. I made two in October and 2. It'e pie season. Just sayin'.

    The usual disclaimers remain:
I'll feed you dinner - Mao Pao Tofu with Pork, Cream of Mushroom Soup (veg) and some form of salad. Possibly bread, but I make no promises.
Bring one dessert, no doubling required
Bring containers to take your share home

I live in Irving Park. There is plenty of free parking and my digs are accessible by 2 bus routes and the Blue Line (0.8 miles southwest).

Who's Coming & What Are They Bringing?:
Pie Lady - Maple Cream Pie, some form of Cheesecake?
pairs4life - maybe an apple thing
    Cathy2 - Concord Grape Sorbet?
    toria - TBA
    justjoan - something with flour
    darcjoan - Chocolate Nut Pie?
    irisarbor - Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
Ms. Ingie - Ginger and Pear Upside Down Cake
Cookie Monster - pumpkin cranberry bread or apple pumpkin pie
    suef - Chocolate Crinkle Cookie

    Waiting List:

eli, it'll be great to see you again. i wasn't sure if you'd left chicago... let me know if you don't make that chocolate babka, because funnily enough, i was considering it, too. every babka i've had has been less delicious than it's looks would lead me to expect. this one really looks good. i think there's never enough chocolate in them, and this recipe doesn't have much either.... so i'm skeptical.

Will do Joan. I actually made it once already this past weekend, but I had a stupid moment and accidentally doubled the butter in the dough, plus I just moved a few months back and am still getting used to my new oven so the dough wasn't quite right and I want an excuse to try it again. There was a reasonable amount of chocolate in it, but I was considering bumping it up just a bit for the next time.

I've had rather a lot going on in my life lately and I just haven't been around lth much. I think things are finally quieting down though and I should be around more.

i'd vote for bumping up the chocolate! but you do what you think is right..... i'll definitely look for something else to make. the new rose levy beranbaum cookbook might be out by 11/16, so that would be a good place for me to look for ideas.

    Yay, Eli!

I saw the pics of Eli's babkas and they looked wonderful. They were so beautiful that I am even considering giving that recipe a whirl and I don't even like chocolate.

By the way, would anyone be opposed to making this BYOB (bring your own bowl?) I'm making two hot dishes that should be in bowls, but I don't have quite enough that are not disposables (which can get too hot to hold).

Unfortunately I'm gonna have to bow out. I just got scheduled to support a big project launch at work that weekend and am gonna be working 2am to noon that day, which leaves little time for baking and sleeping before the exchange. (It's extra annoying because I have to work maybe 2 weekends a year for this job. Bad timing.) I'll keep an eye out and hopefully I can make the next one. Happy baking everyone and I look forward to the pictures!
