It is surprising that the Evanston Lunch Group seems to have never visited Trattoria D.O.C., an oversight that is about to be corrected. Over the years, the restaurant has received some quite positive comments on this board about its pizza and desserts.

Please come for pizza and good company on Wednesday, October 22, at 12:30 p.m.

Sorry I can't make it - for the company as well as for a restaurant I've never tried but always wondered about - but I'll be on my way out of town that day. Please post afterwards about how it was!

Hello! Is this a closed lunch group or can anyone join in? I drive past Trattoria D.O.C all the time and have been wanting to give it a try.

Has this group been to 527 Cafe? (http://www.527cafedavis.com)

Wondering if it's worth a try. Supposedly, they are serving a more authentic version of Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup.

I just stopped into 527 this evening. Been craving some Taiwanese Fried Pork Chop & rice....happy that I stopped to satisfy the craving.

Also had a chance to pop into Patisserie Coralie - very cute space and design. Love the fact they offer some legit French sodas. Most pastries sold out by the time I got there, but that's a good sign. I hope they do well!

So, how do I find this lunch group tomorrow at Trattoria D.O.C.? Are reservations made and under a particular person's name?

    Hi FF,

There is a reservation. You'll probably see the big group, but the reservation is under "Evelyn."

    See you tomorrow!

It was a great lunch with even better company!

At the end of lunch, Tom and Sharon handed me one of those coveted membership cards! So awesome! :D

I thought the highlight of the meal was the grilled marinated calamari - tender sliced squid cooked with a flavored oil ... The antipasti plate was fine, on a par with many other places. We had three pizzas - Pizza Mare (assorted seafood), Pizza Bresaola, and IIRC Silvio E Gabriele Pizza. All were fine - toppings were good - but the crusts could have used more flavor and maybe a bit more char. Overall, it was a reasonably good lunch, but probably not worth a special trip, unless you're in the neighborhood. (It could pair well with an evening at Piccolo Theater, for example.)

I agree with Tom. The crusts had little taste and too little char. Toppings were fine and the calamari was an encouraging start to a meal that never reached that height again.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't know if I'll ever try it; between the excellence of Campagnola nearby, and our frequent visits to Anteprima in Andersonville, it's not like we're hurting for Italian food...
