Needed a quick bite on the way home last night. Headed down Lake street to avoid the Elgin O'Hare mess. Typically I would stop for a slice or a burrito but decided this night to hold out for something more interesting. I was quickly running out of options when I spied a small Middle Eastern restaurant in a strip mall in Roselle.
Holy Falafel is in a somewhat nondescript strip mall next to El Burrito Fantastico. The establishment itself is located in a Middle Eastern market specializing Halal meats. There was also a variety of Middle Eastern and Indian spices/condiments for sale. The menu is fairly small, shawarma, falafel, hummus, salads, etc. I went with the Falafel sandwich. I was informed that it would take about 5 minutes because they were frying the falafel fresh for me.
While waiting for my sandwich I struck a conversation with the owners. They couldn't have been nicer. Even if the food wasn't good I could see myself being a repeat visitor because I want the place successful for them. Good thing this wasn't an issue because the sandwich was terrific.
The falafel was fresh and crispy. The sandwich was overflowing with these tasty balls of goodness. It was spicy as requested the tahini dressing was great. All in all this may be my favorite falafel sandwich to date. From my perspective it blows Pita Inn out of the water.
I don't get to that area very often but when I do I will definitely be stopping in to explore more of their menu.
