We live in The western suburbs, but find ourselves in Roger's Park frequently. Each time, we go, we think there should be good quality food because of the diversity of the community, but often wonder where to eat. My kids like Asian food except for Indian. They really like Korean and have never had Ethiopin. TIA.

Four ideas in Edgewater, just south of the Rogers Park border: Awash for superb Ethiopian (be sure to order the kwanta ferfer!), Bismillah for Pakistani (I know the kids don't like Indian, but this place is worth the visit for the super-fresh griddled breads), Dak for Korean chicken wings, and Jerky Jerk for good, smoky jerk chicken.

In Rogers Park proper, some of my favorites are Taste of Peru, Tamales Los Mejores de Guerrero, and SP Kebab.

Among these, only Awash and Taste of Peru offer much in the way of atmosphere. But for cheap eats up that way, these would be good places to start.

In Evanston, just north of Rogers Park, you've got Edzo's, DMK Burger & Fish, and Wiener and Still Champion for great burgers, shakes and fries, Panino's for inexpensive Italian, and Lao Sze Chuan for spicy Chinese.

For gyros and burgers, you've got Cross Rhodes in Evanston, and Dengeo's and Hub's in Skokie. Also Pita Inn in Skokie for Middle Eastern.

    Noon Hour Grill

La Unica for the Cuban sandwich and Garbanzo soup (potaje de garbanzos).

Both off-the-beaten-path ethnic cheap eats in Rogers Park. Kids might dig the settings.

Agreed, and soon to be part of a great one-two punch with Likity Split supposed to open very soon (finally) across the street.

Likity Split Frozen Custard & Sweets

With the one-two punch presumably consisting of a two-part meal with barbecue at Rub's, then dessert at Likity Split. Unless you subscribe to the philosophy that "life's uncertain, eat dessert first". :)
