Having become quite the fan of Uncle Mikes' breakfasts, I would love to provide my own take on a Filipino breakfast on New Years Day to my guests, but not sure where to source longanisa.

I spoke with the meat dept of H mart in Niles and the gentlemen said they had it, but the language barrier meant he was unable to give me much detail, other than they had it.

Also heard of Oscar's Foods on Belmont in Chicago, but when I called and asked for their hours, I was told they don't keep formal hours for the public. Anybody have any experience with these two places, or recommendations for places I should try?

    Thanks

Have you checked Fresh Farms in Niles? I believe I saw it there this past summer.

At Super H I have seen it in the freezer cases in the center of the aisle across from the main display of beef and chicken. It is frozen sausage and it is very sweet.

    Hi,

You can find them also at Unimart, which has many other Filipino offerings:

    Unimart One Stop Shopping
    www.unimartonestop.com
    7315 West Dempster Street
    Niles, IL
    (847) 663-8388

    Uni-Mart One Stop Shopping
    www.unimartonestop.com
    5845 North Clark Street
    Chicago, IL
    (773) 271-8676
    Uni-Mart
    unimartonestop.com

    Strawberry Hill Plaza Shopping Center,
    1028 West Golf Road
    Hoffman Estates, IL
    (847) 755-1082

I have seen them on Argyle Street, specifically:

    Hoa Nam Grocery
    1101-3 W. Argyle St
    Chicago, IL 60640

While Unimart will have a vast array of Filippino offerings, it is hunt and peck at Hoa Nam though I have certainly seen those sausages.

I have seen longanisa at H-Mart in the meat section. In the same case, they have the large Filippino dumplings you can steam.

    Regards,

I'm sure FFN has them, but it's always wise to double check by phone before a trip. FFN has a growing selection of Filipino foods.
