Pretty sure I have found my favorite cheesesteak place in Chicagoland. - Mojo's out in Downers - Spot opened back In June and I think I had passed by it without giving a second look. Yelp put it back on my radar..

Strip mall spot just east of I355 on Maple.

Rolled in for 3 consecutive work lunches - Last Thurs & Fri and again Monday. Kind of taking a break from eggrolls... :D

Talked with the owner the 2nd visit and discussed local Philly Cheesesteak legend Dontis deli which was located west of Mojo's back in the day. I used to sling cheesesteaks there so I have an affinity for this sandwich. Also heaped praise upon his product and found out I had missed out on the cherry peppers he offers as a sandwich topper - now were talking. Jon - the owner is originally from Doylestown, PA.

They are using Amoroso rolls and ribeye here. Cheese Whiz is avail for the cheesesteaks in addition to the white american and provolone options.

Also doing hoagies with Dietz and Watson Meats. Hoagies are priced a little over $9.

The large sandwich comes in at around $10.50w/fries you are getting ribeye(8 oz per an article I read) and probably wont need much dinner. 1/2 sandwiches w/fries are around $6.25

1st visit I went with the Cheesesteak Hoagie(w/ tomatoes & mayo - sans lettuce ) - white american and Bethany BEach crab fries:

nice sandwich. knew Id like this place - not dry as some cheesesteaks can be. Crab fries were flavored kind of like Utz chips. good stuff.

Next day just a simple cheesesteak with white american - regular fries:

    really nice, getting there -

3rd visit added the cherry peppers. and extra onions. got that balance:

Spot is open for breakfast and it sounds like they are doing an interesting sandwich for that. "Egg on a roll" - specifically the one with the sausage link topped with cheese and fried egg on the Amoroso roll...

Wish I took better pics - but y'all hopefully get the drift re: this joint.

dangit - got hungry doing this post - no need to guess where Im heading for lunch - jah willing.

I went there with my wife last weekend and opted for the Chicken Cheesesteak...delicious! My wife got a meatball sub and it was gone before I had a chance to try it. I want to try this joint for breakfast soon!

I was curious about the meatball sub, sounds promising.

    Food ADD in full swing.

    Current hyperfocus:

sweet spot - sandwich nirvana - ribeye, white american, extra onions, cherry peppers on the side for my strategic placement..

That looks great. Shame it's chopped and not sliced, but I guess that's a style preference battle for another time. Anyone opt for the crab fries with white american sauce on the side (is that an option)? Very traditional.

Interesting - the only cheese-steaks I have had or made were with the slices of ribeye tossed on the griddle then chopped up with the onions chopped and worked in. Not sure Ive seen one where the ribeye is left in whole slices - guessing it cant be bad.

I hit Mojo's once or twice a week - the 1/2 sandwich and fries is ample and at around $7 not bad -

done up GrubSeeker style - white american, xtra onions, cherry peppers on the side - :
    Image

However, I think I have only done the 1/2 up once - wallet must have been light that day, I know ive always got the crave for this: - thinkin this was the day I only got 1 container of the peppers on the side... alas the rationing of the peppers on the 1st half of this sandwich

    Image

the fries - im not a big fry guy - mostly consider them filler - would rather Mojos just offer the sandwich and knock a buck or two off the price - as most days i could totally do without french fries in general. That said the fries here are pretty good - fresh cut and I find myself sampling a few - crab or original.

The full runs about $11 with tax.

Definitely confident after about 15 visits in proclaiming Mojo's as having my favorite cheesesteak in Illinois - hands down - its really not even close y'all.
