I agree. I've been to brunch at Lula. There wasn't all that much of a wait before 10, but by 11, there was quite a long wait. At most of the popular brunch places that don't accept reservations, the big crunch on Sundays is roughly between 9:30 and 1:00.
If I were willing to go to a place that doesn't take any reservations, I'd go to
Jam. It's my favorite place for brunch in the city, when I'm not in the mood for a big blowout at Shaw's. Imagine what it would be like if a guy with background at Charlie Trotter's and North Pond went out and opened a casual, inexpensive breakfast/brunch-focused place, and that's what Jeff Mauro has done at Jam. It's awesome, particularly for the creativity of his cuisine.
Jam is also only a block from Lula, so you could always go to Jam and if the waits are terribly long, walk over to Lula to see if they're any better there. But both places are pretty darn popular for weekend brunch.
