I decided to do a test run today and made a mistake. It is in the oven, but I already know if it isn't right it is pilot error!

Thanks for making a difficult call. Now I can focus on this dish and be all set next week!

i'm really relieved you've postponed the event. i have 2 sick cats at home: i've been to the vet 3 times this week. i don't know who's more stressed out, me or the cats. i'm also catsitting for a very aggressively playful kitten and i'm happy to stay home and keep an eye on everyone. i made hazelnut butter swirled meringues that i really love, and will freeze and bring them next week. has anyone ever frozen meringues before? i haven't; so i'll sample one before i bring them.

I haven't tried. I would think it would be too humid. Try a couple overnight and see what happens.

I do suggest that people keep in mind what they make during the winter months in case of a snow storm. Of course make what you want. Me, I would not be making a big layer cake for next week because if a big snow comes it will be wasted. Instead I will be making some bar cookies that I will be able to use with my tiny family.

Sorry the exchange is not today. My cake is going into the freezer. But unfortunately, I already have a commitment for next week, so will not be able to make it then.

You have no idea how happy I would make folks, self included with a big layer cake.

The rice pudding was awesome last night, and overnight got really incredibly too firm. LOL
I think if I stir in some more milk with a little sugar it will be perfect- since the family consensus was it needed to be a little sweeter.
    So maybe I'll try that...
Internet consensus is that rice pudding can be frozen, or we could eat it and I can re-make it,
    or make something else.
meantime pretty much no snow here up north- but I know there is some in other parts.

    HI,

    It's been snowing here.

Sue - sorry for inconveniencing you. I know Irisarbor, you and I were the least impacted by this weather by geography and relative closeness.

Some people who could not make it today, can now make it next week. Weather reporter suggests rain and temps in the 40's next Sunday.

I might even make a layer cake just to spit in the eye of fate.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

I had also made a tiny batch of Makeover Brownies because I decided this year will be the Year of Chocolate. So I'll defrost and bring those, along with another tiny batch of freshly made chocolate something.

I hadn't baked my cake yet when the dessert exchange was postponed, but I made it anyway as a test run and since I need a treat for another event. Turned out quite nice. I made two loaves and put them in the freezer. I'll take out one for my event this week and if it tastes good upon thawing, will bring the other on Sunday. Then I will make a bonus dessert. Hmm, what to make?

Just a thought. I'm downsizing my canning jars. I've got a bushel basket each of pint and quart jars. I'd be glad to bring them along on Sunday if anyone would like them.

No need to swap...I'll bring plenty of each. I'm trying to get rid of them! Anyway, I was watching the Today Show this morning, and Martha Stewart made a chocolate pudding with avocado, dutch processed chocolate, honey, vanilla and a touch of sea salt. They all went nuts for it. They say the recipe is on the website. I think all you need is a blender to put it togethere. For you "undecided" people...this could be a unique winner to bring. :)

    HI,

Sorry Ava, you cannot make it. I had made mushroom pelmeni for you. I had read of mushroom pelmeni being served in Czarist Russia, though never tried them or seen them, either. The filling was shiitake enhanced with morels.

    See you next time!
