My wife and I had lunch at this very nice, small restaurant. It's been mentioned a couple of times before on LTH

    http://www.lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.ph ... t=delicias

but never had it's own thread.

The menu offers the food of Guatemala and El Salvador, and the chalk board seemed to offer some Honduran far, as well. I do not know these cuisines well enough to assess how this place rates against others serving this fare. I think, however, that many would find this an excellent place to introduce oneself to the food of these countries. The restuarant is very friendly (although not much English is spoken), nicely decorated (except for the two TV's, which were on low volume fortunately) and they seemed pleased to have non-Spanish speakers. The place was also two thirds full on Saturday at 1:00, so those it seems a popular place.

We had two kinds of papusas, which came with two sauces and a kind of coleslaw. I had a meat filled pastelitos, which is a sort of turnover with that's been deep fried. Deep fried dough and meat; what could be bad? My wife had a truly delicious corn tamale and a hot corn drink that is really a cup of very nice corn soup.

All of these dishes may be made better elsewhere, but anyone looking to try the cuisine of these countries will find Cafe Las Delicious a very pleasant place to start the journey.

The C. American places do not get enough love, so thanks. Las Delicias is a pretty good jack of all trades and has breakfast which is a plus. Pupusas, curtido (the slaw), the tamales (one tamal), and atol de elote (the drink), are good examples of everyday Salvadoran and Guatemalan foods.

I consumed many calories today at Las Delicias. The sweet corn tamalitos were fantastic! It was the sort of dish I really don't need to know about. I can imagine finding myself there, freshly out of a fugue, devowering plate after plate of the little suckers. They were really tasty, really.
    Take that!

Glad you enjoyed it; the corn tamale is great. What, by the way is "freshly out of a fugue?" Do you mean just after listening to some Bach?

Coming down from a psychotic episode?

Yes, I had a horrible, terrible psychotic episode that led me to consume an inordinate amount of "ethnic" calorie-laden foodstuffs. Wait, that's no episode, that's my life.
    Take that!

A friend and I tried to go to Cafe Las Delicias for dinner last night -- I had always wanted to go, and it's practically down the block from my house ... sadly, my friend reached Las Delicias first and called me to tell me that the place was dark and guys were pulling furniture out of the restaurant and piling it on the street.

I can't believe we were too late! Does anybody else know anything?

Not after they opened, but I posted about the opening soon sign on November 9, 2013, in the Openings and Closings thread for October to December, 2013.
