    Kuma's in Schaumburg

I saw the sign the other day when I stopped at the new Trader Joes. It's east of the California Pizza Kitchen. I think the spot has had many difference tenants.

Didn't they just vehemently deny they were opening in Shaumburg?

The only denials I could find were on their facebook page in an august 2012 posting.

You can never have too many burger places. And they never go out of style.

While burgers may never go out of style, the "gild the lily" approach that Kuma's is famous for could easily stay or go.

At any rate, some more news from the Irving Park/Albany Park/Mayfair section of town:

As reported in the 4Q2014 thread, Almaida, an "Indian Mediterranean Restaurant" (serving both? Fusing the two?) in the previous Baked Tomato space now has the paper removed from the windows and has tables/chairs ready to go. According to Everyblock, they passed inspection on March 26th. Opening rather soon one presumes.

Also, now open in the former Seven Meres space on Montrose near Pulaski is Las Delicias, a "Pupuceria Restaurant." The awning displays several national flags representing, as best I can tell, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Possibly (probably?) related to this place formerly located in Lincoln Square and then Ravenswood Manor. Can't say for sure since the phone number has changed. If it's the same place, it looks like they keep getting pushed westward...

Luke's Lobster, a New York-based company with 14 locations, is planning to open a restaurant in the Loop in May. It will be the first Midwest restaurant for the company, which started in 2009 and has 14 locations in New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.

Luke's Lobster has leased a 1,200-square-foot space at 134 N. LaSalle St., Crain's Real Estate Daily previously reported. It had been a Crumbs Bake Shop. A spokesman said it will seat between 10 and 20.

Mash opened yesterday in the former site of Bad Dog Tavern in Lincoln Square. They have the same great patio to work with, but gutted the interior and have a far sharper focus on food/drink options. The menu is not yet available online, but they posted a photo on FB

Amorino Gelato is supposed to open at 838 N State St this month. They received their business license just a day or two ago, so anyday now they should be opening. I've had them in NYC before - actually pretty good. Mascarpone gelato is surprisingly good

Yes, the location in Bucktown officially closed on April 9, as mentioned (and discussed extensively) in the Honey 1 topic. It notes that they may still be open for a few sporadic days on weekends as they wind down there, but it's best to call ahead.

Had dinner last night at the newly opened (as of Thursday) Boeufhaus. It's German'ish with a heavy emphasis (as the name implies) on steak in a bistro-style setting. In the next couple of weeks they expect to open a deli counter up front, but for now they're focusing on dinner.

I had the opportunity to meet the owners/chefs Brian Ahern and Jamie Finnegan through mutual friends before the opening. The space is a former butcher shop, and they were kind enough to show us their fantastic smoke room, which apparently is old enough to be grandfathered in under earlier building codes. Charcuterie is apparently in the works.

Highlights of the meal included a citrus-cured salmon appetizer, beef tartare a pork duo with a lovely roast pork loin plus a melt-in-your-mouth pork shoulder, and a rye spaetzle that was as delicious as any I've ever had.

I had a couple beers. Their list is heavy on German stuff with a smattering of Belgians, too, plus a number of German-style craft beers from brewers in the Midwest.

    Shabu-shabu?

Anyone remember the place on Wells off of Huron 20 years ago? Thought it was tasty stuff then when lots of Japanese real Japanese were in town doing business back then. Never found another place doing it since then.

Wonder if they'll promote and encourage all the slurping noises that go along with that cuisine? Americans get weird with that.

I think you're referring to Honda. Doesn't Cocoro do shabu shabu? I skimmed their menu and don't see it listed, but there's a featured photo of raw meat + tofu that implies to me they do still have it.
