A little place opened recently out here, named Roll N Donut, part of a small chain. On Algonquin Road west of Randall Road, in Algonquin. Yes, it's a donut shop. Really good donuts, made right there as I discovered this morning, but the thing that kicks ass is the pho on weekends. Or so I hear! Going back over there right now to try. I'll be reporting in a bit, to let y'alls know if it's a thing worth checking out.

    Excited! :D

    Yumm!

Very limited menu, weekends only. Pho Bo, Laotian eggrolls, a couple of fried rice offerings. Coming soon, Banh Mi, and a few other dishes. Quality is great. Prices are very reasonable. Hours are limited; best to call before making the trip.

Thanks to Dave148 for the Algonquin addy and phone.

The Pho and eggrolls are excellent! The staff is very nice; I'll be back.

Well, that's a step in the right direction!

Up here in Mundelein, there was absolutely nothing in the way of Vietnamese fare for many years until Pho House in Libertyville opened up less than a year ago. Very good & fairly traditional, and close. Before that, it was Dung Gia in Des Plaines that was the closest.

But this is good, will have to try it!

Pics from Roll N Donut in Algonquin today.

IMG_0839.JPG The small menu. It's going to get longer.
IMG_0840.JPG The usual suspects of condiments.
    IMG_0841.JPG Greens!
IMG_0842.JPG Pho! Beef & meatballs. Don't think they are offering tendon or tripe yet.

IMG_0843.JPG Laotian style pork eggrolls. Fragrant, fresh, tasty.

I think the Algonquin location is the only one with the SE Asian food. The Elgin location is donuts only, albeit great donuts, judging by the fresh, excellent ones here.

    Go! Go!

Scratch that. Hopefully the banh mi will be available next weekend.

Still no banh mi, but maybe next weekend..... but the pho is outstanding! As are the apple fritters. they also have dutchies, which are great. Go there early for the donuts, as they've been selling out before closing time. :D
