The worn pages of a cookbook have a unique ability to drill into a place where food memory mixes with love and loss. As our kitchen adventures increasingly get recorded in sleek digital files or even the fleeting history of a recipe search, beat-up cookbooks become more valuable, both personally and historically.

Thanks for posting Dave. I enjoyed reading this article and seeing the photos of "dirty pages".
I had planned to toss my Mom's old red and white Betty Crocker cookbook because it is such a mess.
I think I will keep it now!

Seems everyone wishes they would have gotten favorite recipes from their mom or grandma after they are gone or can't remember them any longer. It would be awesome for all us moms out there to start recipes books for our kids and each birthday or Christmas add more pages to it.

Just think -- years down the road how glad the kids (grownups by then) will be to not to have to "wish" we had mom's favorite chocolate cake recipe.
