Hi- I hope this is the right place to put this post. I was wondering if anybody here has tried the Whole30 diet yet, which is a version of the PALEO diet, in which you get rid of gluten, sugar, dried beans and I am sure a few other things to see if it helps your inflammation? I cannot see myself getting rid of gluten for 30 days, although there are some supporters of the diet that would say that is because I am addicted to gluten. The authors of the plan have a new book out, which is on the best seller list on Amazon. Does anyone here even follow at Paleo diet? Have you had success with the Whole30 diet, or paleo in general? Thanks, Nancy

The latest Whole30 book is number 15 on Amazon right now though. Apparently paloe diets are really popular right now, as well as gluten free diets, and I don't know why.

Because, like Atkins, they let you eat a lot of formerly forbidden things in most diets: dairy, non-lean meats, cheese, etc.
I've been running my own 'rules' which are closer to paleo than anything else, but really just boil down to not eating starches and sugars (except for special occasions, which seem to happen a little too often). I'm not counting on body chemistry changes, it's just taking something out to limit what I'm eating. And it's working reasonably well. Slowly I'm losing some weight. Waiting to see if it changes any of my other numbers when I'm next at the doc in a couple months, but not expecting anything major.

There's growing evidence that low carb lifestyles have lower heart disease (the exception is calorie-restricted lifestyles which seem to do OK on mostly carbs, paradoxically), overturning 50 years of low fat advice from doctors and govt. But anything this you can stick to will probably work for weight loss.
What is patriotism, but the love of good things we ate in our childhood?

I know a lot of people who do Paleo or Whole 30 or avoid sugars, etc. Some people feel better when they do that. Other people don't. Every body is different. You might want to discuss significant dietary changes with your doctor before doing anything radical.
