Well, it's memorial day today, and that means it's officially the start of the Montrose Beach Semimonthly Potluck and BBQ season. The first will be this Saturday, 5/30/15.

The kickoff theme will be Cajun, Creole and Lowcountry cooking.

Prior years, newcomers from time to time get lost trying to find the spot. It is just north of montrose beach, but that doesn't mean it's on montrose, and it's not exactly on the beach either. It is actually just a little north of Lawrence Ave. Please look at the map and answers to other questions here:

See you there. Still undecided but maybe considering a big bowl of punch.

I'm thinking Henry's Cheese Spread (a Cheddar cheese, ale, ketchup, Lea & Perrins, horseradish, dry mustard, lemon, garlic and Crystal hot sauce concoction) from the Lee Bros. Cookbook and G Wiv's BBQ shrimp. So I'll have a Weber Kettle there if anyone needs, though it will be occupied for the shrimp for an hour or so.

Due to potential rain, we are moving the potluck indoors to my house. Please PM or visit the facebook event page for the address.

Thank you everyone who made it out to our place for the potluck "BBQ" yesterday! The last minute change to an indoor location was a good call. The weather actually turned out to be perfect for eating hearty stews and sipping on bourbon all afternoon. As always, lthers knocked it out of the park when it came to serious cooking skills. A rundown of everything the rest of y'all missed out on:

    Ale punch by fropones
    Country Captain by trixiepea
Gumbo with homemade Andouille by laikom
    Yaka mein by mhl
    Dirty rice by petitegourmande
    Bourbon bread pudding by me

It wasn't much of a picnic, but it was still a great start to the summer season! And, as always, the more the merrier! We hope to see a few new faces this summer!

I also wish I could have been there. It seems that you should start a business selling hats. Great pics, thanks! Keepon.

Awesome start to the season. It reminded me how much I love this crowd of people, and loved seeing some new faces this year too. The food was all seriously tremendous, a lot of talent in this group. I love how after doing this for so many years the organizing just comes so naturally now. It's pretty effortless to coordinate dishes, etc. Thanks everyone who came, see ya at the next one, on the 13th!
