I'm excited to host the next dessert exchange at our home in Logan Square on May 31. No theme this time, sorry theme-lovers, but I'm not creative about that kind of thing.
As usual, I will make a light dinner before we stuff ourselves with dessert. Please bring one dessert to share, no doubling necessary. Also, bring containers to take home your share of desserts. Everyone is welcome! I can seat about 10. (my toddler will probably also be joining us)
Hope to see everyone next month!

It's been forever since I've done one of these but I'd like to get back to them.

I've been looking for an excuse to make this so that's probably what I'll bring.

coming up with the one that is most appealing to me.

    HI,

This is my family's season for birthdays, I cannot begin to consider agreeing until I know their plans. Very likely I cannot attend, though I will be thinking of all of you.

I'm going to regretfully change my status to not attending. I lost 15 lbs last year prior to my daughter's wedding. I passed my yearly physical with flying colors with my BMI, glucose and cholesterol all normal. The plan was to lose 15 more. Well I've gained back all the weight and then some since October. I realized this morning that the last time I weighed this much I was pregnant, and into the late stages. It's time to get tough with myself and that means no dessert exchange. I will miss the goodies and the company, but it must be done.

Congrats! I completely understand. Can you come and fellowship? If not, let's get a chat on the calendar for coffee or drinks.

Anyone else always find when they are ready to make something they still need a trip to the store?

I made ricotta and have almost enough for Melissa Clark's ricotta tart so that is what I am bringing. Assuming making the crust works in the Vitamix until I get another food bowl for the current food processor or purchase another food processor.

    Hi,

I try not to go to the store when it is for one ingredient. I substitute or work around it. One ingredient shopping eats up a lot of time. Plus who leaves the store with just one item.

That said, I did go this morning to Sunset Foods for butter. A recipe for today's program required more butter than I anticipated. There was not enough and no good substitute.

I didn't need butter but I bought it since I was at the store anyhow and I had a coupon. Since my default baking butter tends not to go on sale picking up a pound, or a few, when I have a coupon seems okay.

    Laura,
I had a lovely time at your house this afternoon. The quiches were very good. The conversation was relaxed and enjoyable.
And the desserts were good. Your son is a dumpling. A sweet toddler.
    Thank you again for hosting.

    ^^^^^^ what she said.

Joan- I sent you a text message. Plum Market does have goat butter. Apx $7.50 for 250 g if my memory is correct.

I am not sold on Melissa Clark's ricotta tart that I made. I will try it again and eliminate most of the 1 gram of cinnamon called for before deciding that it is simply a solid, albeit unremarkable dessert. That said the rhubarb compote was very good, but alas, that is Jeni Briton Bauer's recipe from Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream at home.
