My latest culinary adventure has been making neopolitan pizzas in a wood fired oven. I had the oven on the patio at Rub last week, and it has struck up many an interesting conversation (and a begging desire for more good wood-fired pizza in Chicago)..

One of my guests on Friday was in from rural Minnesota - and started casually talking about "Pizza Farms". At first, I went along with the conversation not really understanding what he was talking about - but I eventually admitted I didn't know what a pizza farm was/is... I did a board search, just briefly, and didn't find any mention - so here it goes:

A pizza farm is just what it sounds like. A farm that sells wood-fired pizzas (usually only a few days/week - Fri, Sat, Sun) using ingredients they grow on the farm!! Eureka! How cool is that?! Here is a link to an article from midwest living that goes into more detail and gives some examples of the best WI pizza farms:

Have any LTHers done a pizza farm weekend? I love the idea of this: order a pizza in an old barn - walk around the property while waiting for it to be prepared and cooked, then eating in a pasture or on a picnic table. To me, that's heaven.... I have a really busy start to June - but after Ribfest, I'm gonna head up to do some Pizza Harvesting (see what I did there) :) in WI. Anyone have any stories, or interesting feedback about Pizza Farms?
I love comfortable food, and comfortable restaurants.

Between all the great old-school tavern type spots and the newer farm to oven places recently featured on the Travel Wisconsin Website, they make a good case as a state.

It's an ongoing project. I'm hoping to knock a couple more off this summer. Since most of them are up near the Minnesota border they're not quite as easily accessible as other spots in state but I'm planning a little getaway in that area. The Stone Barn in Nelson was pretty legit for the reasons you describe. The pie was on point but I don't think it was quite up to Stop 50 standards. Though as far as the atmosphere and surroundings go it was tough to beat.
