When it comes to "Food Exploration"- I will go most anywhere.
When it comes to Chicago's multitude of neighborhoods I must
say there are many 'hoods I may not know
as well as others-and Little Village area- along 26th Street is one of them.
Yes- I know alot of spots near the Courthouse @ 26th/Cali....but my experience west
    of Sacramento is quite limited.
Todays adventure took us to this place

IZALCO's menu features many typical dishes from Central American that I've eaten at my Hondurano assistants
families table- from "pastellitos" (yummious little Empanada savory pies)
to the thick and rich "crema" a variation on Sour Cream....and a few others that were included in this lovely combination
breakfast platter- truly a meal for two- if you also consider
the thick and filling house-made tortilla's (that are more akin to papusa's than a tortilla!)

We were seated and greeted and soon after this arrived at the table- two salsa's + Chips + a lovely
vinegar/lime juice flavored Cabbage Slaw with sliced chilies as a slight flavoring agent.

ImageSalvadorano y Honduraño Breakfast spot- we just "discovered" whilst free- stylin... Along 26th St. in Chicago's Little Village barrio!Looked good- & a hefty enough combo platter of food for2people to share as one meal- made for an "over-served" MOI! by R. Kramer, on Flickr
This Combo Platter ($14.95) is so filling- the griddled meat and chorizo alone is a meal for one.
Add in the extra long sweet Plantains- and the hard-cheese ("Queso Duro") and the crema and the Frijoles....and
the poached eggs- and the tortillas that are more like Pupusas ....and you;ll be in a Food Coma-
    guaranteed.

The hints to their Honduran-side are evidenced by the flags in the window- as well as the menu explanations from the bi-lingual Waitress.

    OH!- and the pastellitos are
Good- but.... no where as good as my friends wife Janet's-
her "Carne Molida" + potato filling are a sublime treat that I wish she'd
sell at catered events- but- alas- I've learned, that you can't "force" talented folks
into being an Entrepreneur- the drive must come from within.

If you are looking for a non-typical breakfast encounter- may I heartily reccomend
    IZALCO RESTAURANT!

There is a Honduran place in my town named El Rincon Catracho, and I have tried all the Honduran dishes there. Fried fish or chicken with the cooked plantains, pastelitos, enchiladas catrachadas, yuca con chicharron, baleadas, and some groceries too.
