The former home of the flying chicken has a coming soon sign for Ixcateco Grill. Apparently Ixcateco is a language and the name of a native tribe in Mexico. Unfortunately, all the early results in a Google search are in Spanish.

    Ixcateco Grill
    3402 West Montrose
    Chicago

    Edited to correct street number.

Just a couple more words on Ixcateco Grill- the address is 3402 W. Montrose, former home of the ill-fated Pollo Volador, which faced some stiff roast chicken competition from a grocery store or two along Montrose as well as the first-rate bird at Brasa Roja. According to an article in the Lincolnwood Review, the chef is Anselmo Ramirez, who has honed his craft at Prairie Grass Cafe and Frontera Grill before launching Ixcateco. The restaurant will focus on food from central and southern Mexico. I believe they're very close to opening as they passed inspection a couple days ago and a permanent sign is already up.

Yeah, you sure you got that 4102 W Montrose address right? 4102 would put it in the same building as that long-closed "Fantasy Lounge" on the NW corner of Montrose and Elston...

Should be 3402 West Montrose for Ixcateco Grill. I had notes on two restaurants on the same slip of paper and grabbed the wrong number when typing. Writing on the steering wheel while stopped in traffic was not good for clarity.

Las Cazuelas has been closed for quite some time. In fact, there has already been another restaurant in that space which has now closed.

Las Cazuelas closed two years ago. This place was "La Quinta de Los Reyes" most recently. This was one of three locations. the others being in Berwyn and Aurora. To the best of my knowledge, those two are still around.

Heavenly Hearth Bread Co. in Wilmette closed recently after 20 years at this location. No idea if they plan to reopen elsewhere, or are going strictly wholesale - their facebook page is vague, saying only, "Well friends, it's time for new adventures. Thanks for 20 years!" Damn shame, as their bread was very good, and Wilmette has a dearth of any manner of bakery, good, bad, or mediocre - the only other one I can think of is Lawrence Dean's Bake Shop on Green Bay Road, and they carry sweet stuff only. Bummer.

NOW OPEN: Fragola Ice Cream and Yogurt
    3207 N Central Ave
    (708) 667-0379

CLOSED: Yo-Joe's at Addison and Narragansett. Been closed for some time, and the building/business were for sale for some time before that. In a sign of changing demographics and culinary tastes, this joint like many other former burger/dog stands will be re-opening soon as a taqueria whose name escapes me at the moment.

Also, Dos Ricco's appears to be opening another location on the NW side, though I cannot remember the location (I saw the sign while zooming along in traffic). Any further information/elaboration on this development would be welcome.

Nah, this was further west. Plus the sign still said "Coming Soon" as of Sunday afternoon, so we'd be looking at a third location.

I suppose I could be completely mis-remembering stuff or merging two recollections into one; you'd think there would be some announcement on their FB page or inspection notices on Everyblock or something. I'll give a call today (if I remember) to see if I can get some more info.

The French Market revolving door continues....

The Meatball Vault owners have expanded with (I think) Out of the Park Dogs - serving dogs/beefs/saugage. If they can reproduce the quality of their meatball sandwiches it will be a welcome addition.

Also, down the aisle from them is the new outpost of the Meatloaf Factory.

    Reviews forthcoming on both.

OK, so I guess I really was imagining things or conflating recollections or something. I called the Cicero Ave location and someone who seemed to know what they're talking about disabused me of any belief that a third location is in the works.

I noticed that the air conditioner installed in the window on the point is supported by a post such that the outer edge is nigher than the part closest to the building thus causing condensate to flow back inside. I hope the rest of the operation proves to be more competent.

Thai Oscar has the windows papered over. Two signs say "pho's Spicier Thai Cuisine" is coming August 1, 2015. A menu is posted in the door. They have another location at 3332 North Lincoln although older LTH references of that restaurant have a slightly different name. The web site has some spelling and consistency problems. At least there is one less spot trying to sell sushi in Lincoln Square.
