Not one of those ersatz dogs (choice of mustard or ketchup...really?) sounds like anything worthy of celebrating National Hot Dog Day to me. Do yourself a favor and go to one of our many GNR Hot Dog Stands for a natural casing Vienna, topped as they should be. Personally, because I'll be in the area, I'll be making an appearance at Gene & Judes or Rand Redhots (perhaps even both) on this fine national holiday; even if I have to pay full price.

I certainly don't want to shoot the messenger here (thanks polster, for pointing this "holiday" out) but I agree.

The slogan should be: National Hot Dog Day - Celebrate Globally, Indulge Locally! :D

I went to meatheads and tried the $1.50 hotdog special today and thought it was great. They use Vienna Beef hotdogs that looks longer than the standard dog. The nice thing about meatheads is they have a lot of FREE toppings to choose from like jalapeno or Sauerkraut if you didn't just want the standard dog.

Also that Jewel grocery store deal today is great for those who like hotdogs! :)

We scratched the itch with a couple of corn dogs supplemented with a cheddar burger at Wiener and Still Champion. Excellent as always.

Stepson the younger insisted on Murphy's (his favorite). Watched him wolf down 2 naked dogs--nothing but dog on bun. He said National Hotdog Day is a great thing.

Murphy's serves a solid dog. They do have an overabundance of toppings available for us purists, but eating one naked with the availability of such a "garden" through which your dog could be dragged is kind of funny.
