Turkish Cuisine was my go-to Turkish place when it was in Andersonville. It's now moved to Peterson Avenue, and I'm anxious to check out their new digs.

So, the Evanston Lunch Group™ will be there September 18 at 12:30 pm, sampling the kebabs, manti, firindan, and so many other delicacies. Sadly, I doubt the belly dancers will be working at lunchtime.

Back from Princeton with my membership card (remember those?), and I am delighted to be again in the LTH Evanston family (a prodigal child).
Toast, as every breakfaster knows, isn't really about the quality of the bread or how it's sliced or even the toaster. For man cannot live by toast alone. It's all about the butter. -- Adam Gopnik

Not sure if Turkish Cuisine runs to fatted calves, but we will welcome you home.

I had to schedule a needed medical examination for 11:30 on the 18th, so unless the process is very quick, I won't make it. If I can get there by 1:30, I will, but it is doubtful. Hopefully I can join you in October.

My son will join us at lunch (not quite a prodigal). See you on Friday!

I'm convalescing ... so I won't be able to make it today. I did call the restaurant, and they're not going to be especially busy, so they said no reservation needed.

We had a good meal at Turkish Cuisine. It's a large space with a very long bar. We were only one of three occupied tables at lunch today. There is a very large menu (with pictures) that took us a while to work our way through.

The cold appetizer sampler provided excellent baba ganouch, humous, stuffed grape leaves, haydari (yogurt and garlic sauce/dip), and Acili Ezme (spicy chopped veggie mix), all prettily presented on a long platter neatly divided by zucchini spears. We also tried the Sigara Boregi (cigar-shaped cheese-filled phyllo packets), which were delicious: crispy outside, cheese and parsley inside. As is often the case, the appetizers were the best part of the meal, I think.

We also had a sampler of grilled meats over rice with salad and yogurt sauce and a vegetable and cheese pide. The meats were quite good and the pide tasty (though too heavy on the mozzarella for me). The cold appetizers and grilled meats came with great bread that worked well with the dips but tasted very good on its own.

Turkish Cuisine is a nice option on a rather dull stretch of Peterson. Parking out front is meter-free! I would like to go back for dinner some time and check out the belly dancing and see how lively the place might be in the evening.
