Bangkok Wok, a small Thai restaurant at 3146 W. Touhy Ave in Chicago, that opened during the summer of 2012 has apparently closed its doors. The windows have been covered with brown paper for the last 3 weeks.
It was an unpretentious place in a small ugly strip mall, but the modest and clean settings and decor had a certain charm. The food, although more American-Thai and lacking any authentic aromas and flavors of the kind that you would find at Rainbow or Sticky Rice, was edible especially for a fast lunch or carry-out.
But for some mysterious reasons, both the quality of the food preparation and the service had seriously declined aver the last year and the restaurant looked often empty.

I drove by yesterday and there is a sign that says under new management but still has the Bangkok Wok name. I haven't gone in but it was a nice place to pick up dinner in the area. Has anyone gone on yet?

I checked the place several times since they announced the re-opening under new management a few weeeks ago. But besides the fact that there is no more brown paper covering the windows and that the tables seem to be clean, I did not see any type of human activity inside.
I will let you know when something new happens.

After its re-opening last December the restaurant did not seem to attract many customers. Until last month the lights as well as table settings were most of the time on but they were rarely occupy. The manager was often standing alone in the empty room looking for a potential diner to come in. And now for a week or so the place seems once again closed. It is sad. I think that the old saying "location, location", might be the reason.
