This was an obvious knock-off of the great Spinning Plates documentary. The restaurants and owners in Spinning Plates were all interesting and likable. Not so much on Consumed.

The good looking guy from The Meatball Shop will host a show called "Food Porn" on FYI Network
Food Porn plays up the trend of snapping pics of dishes and posting them to Instagram, an incredibly fun or annoying development of recent years, depending on how you look at it. Chernow "travels across the US to meet today's tastemakers," according to a release.

"Everyone picks up their phone way before their forks when they go out to eat, and FYI wanted to be the first to capture this trend and bring it to life," says FYI senior vice president of programming and development Gena McCarthy. In addition to the food scenes in this clip, there are the obligatory shots of diners hovering cameraphones over their plates.

Food Porn also plans to hit New York, Chicago, Miami, Austin, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Las Vegas. Fourteen half-hour episodes are on the docket, and the series premieres Thursday, December 3, at 9 p.m. ET.

I am developing a series about people who produce digital cable series about people who post pictures of their food on the internet. I hope to expand this into a whole network's worth of programming, with such shows as "The Selfie Takers" and "Cat GIF Accumulators".

They were running episodes last night. If they're spending $200 an episode to produce this series then it's too much. I caught the umpteenth visit to Lou Malnati's and came away with the insight that it's a very popular spot in Chicago. It's sort of a "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" for people who can't tolerate the journalistic depth of Guy Fieri.

Ha, fair enough. I saw this ep (or at least the Malnati part) in preview, having remembered this guy from the show about his meatball shop/ego. Didn't feel the need to check it out again or any other visits this guy has talked people into funding. I have no objection to eye candy, but I recall being creeped out every time he looked into the camera.

Okay, I sat through the first four episodes of Food Porn and took some notes to improve my food photography and styling.

The intro to the first episodes contains the phrase "......this pornopalooza isn't stopping there......."

They go to a Miami restaurant famous for whimsical presentation, and eat a lobster pop tart served in a giant novelty toaster.

Another promo at the bottom of the scread reads "host Michael Chernow is delicious, follow him at instagram.com/michaelchernow/

The host reads the number of followers and instagram likes for each place he visits.

There sure are a lot of shots of the interior of a Mercedes coupe for a show named food porn.

They visit a donut shop in Los Angeles serving a donut with a root vegetable called an ube, and the donut is very purple.

Then there is another promo that goes "spooning with Michael...... might lead to forking", then its "food porn baby.... you know you want it"

Another feature at a Miami restaurant with great presentations, but the signature dish they make and try is named The Soft Egg, and the presentation is a bowl with charred foam at the top. The dish is an egg with cheese and truffle pearls topped with foam, the presentation isn't jaw dropping but the host describes the dish as "a threesome that turns out well."
You can see the Soft Egg at Alter, and their other presentations here:

After staring at this guy for two hours I am booking my flight to NYC to eat sustainable monkfish tacos at Seamore's.
