I need a Chinese food fix- especially hot and sour soup. What do you recommend that's not too far from the Hinsdale area?

    Appreciate your suggestions!

I've always enjoyed the version at Mapo, but it may be outside your range...

Apologies for sidestepping the request for hot and sour, but Katy's in Westmont for beef noodle or dan dan screams out to me for a possible new crave-worthy sub for hot&sour. It's a few minutes away from you if you haven't been.

Seconding the recommendation for soup at Katy's, but if it's hot & sour you must have, Lao Sze Chuan in Downers Grove probably makes a pretty good version.

I don't know how similar their menus are but at the Skokie LSC location, there are two versions offered: Hot & Sour (#201) and House Special Hot & Sour (#204). I prefer the House Special version, which has a bit more dimension to it.

For sure. I've been grooving on their sour pickle soups which have a tart profile and probably a hint of white pepper. And all those hand pulled noodles...

Golden Wok is Glen Ellyn has a great version.... full of veggies and just the right amount of heat & not overpowering on the sweet side. Their egg rolls are also great!

Luo Loung in Wheaton is also very good... they just reopened after relocating last week and I've been there twice already! Their egg drop soup and Pho's are very good. Love their Vietnamese fresh spring rolls and vietnamese pancake. BYO is also a plus!

I like Chinese Kitchen in Westmont for a standard hot and sour. Nice vinegary tang with a subtle but present kick at the end. I usually add this to an order.

If I'm after soup as a meal, I take it to Katys.
Greater transformation? Collagen to Gelatin or Water into Wine

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I'm quite familiar with Katie's, Lao Sze Chuan, and Chinese Kitchen. We went to the latter for the latest hot and sour fix, and were quite satisfied.

We saw a sign on the door of Luo Loung in early November that said "WE WENT BACK TO VIETNAM". Was this temporary?

They closed the old location to relocate across the street... funny thing about that sign is that it's still hanging on the door of the old place. Quite a few of the old employees still at the new place.... they did a great job and the food is just as good.
