Any suggestions for an authentic Mexican restaurant that would be vegetarian-friendly near the South Loop? We are taking a friend who is in from Paris out for Mexican since there's not many for her back home.

    Thanks!

Have you considered Frontera Grill (if you can get reservations)? It's not terribly far from the South Loop, a little over a mile. And you could emphasize how it's such a famous, longtime favorite, with a famous chef. They have quite a few vegetarian dishes, which they indicate on their menus with a ">" symbol.

Actually that was a thought... We may end up at xoco instead since it be too late to get into Frontera.

If you're willing to leave the area, I had a phenomenal meal the other night at the newish Dos Urban Cantina, 2829 W. Armitage, and I was with a few vegetarians who were equally impressed. In fact, I thought the vegetarian offerings (particularly the mushrooms in red mole with chestnut cornbread) were the best bites of a fantastic meal. Two of the owners (husband and wife) are the former chef and pastry chef at Topolobampo.

Did I miss you mentioning this place before? It sounds great.
