The NZ/Aussie stuff tends to be milder, without very much lamby/gamy taste. It's a matter of preference as to which you prefer.

Well we differ, I think NZ/Aussie lamb is stronger with a grassy overtone and in no way compares to USDA Choice or USDA Prime lamb which is much milder and has a higher fat content for palatability.
    I never purchase NZ/Aussie lamb anymore.-Richard

2 weeks ago, bought Chiappetti Rack of Lamb from Peter's Fresh market. $ 15.99 per lb. Well trimmed. They have many cuts of lamb all from the same source. Going on the grill this Saturday. Located at Midwest Rd & Roosevelt Road, Oakbrook Terrace. Very convenient to all X-Ways.

I would also suggest Joseph's Finest Meats on Addison. They only sell US lamb. Had a terrific leg of lamb a few weeks ago. I love those guys.

Best lamb for my money is from Mint Creek Farm, an organic, grass-fed farm in Stelle, IL (http://mintcreekfarm.com/). It's relatively pricey compared to supermarket options, but incomparably better. They sell at Green City Market (including the winter market), among other all-year spots (http://mintcreekfarm.com/about/where-to-buy/)

I've purchased whole lamb & pieces - nothing else I've had in the area comes close.
