River Valley Farmer's Table has taken over the space on Wilson where City Provisions used to be. River Valley is probably known to most though their farmer's market stands that sell mushrooms, a few other vegetables, and a variety of other prepared goods. The Farmer's Table sells all of this stuff and is also a small restaurant. Brunch the other day included Nichols Farm apple fritters that were delicious, biscuits and gravy, and a smoked trout benedict. On another visit I had the mushroom-based veggie burger, which was very good. A great addition to the neighborhood (and not just for mushroom lovers).

    A BUMP for this place.

My lady has actually just gotten a job working here and was wondering if any other LTHers have been and what kind of things they had to eat.

We live around the corner and pay a visit to River Valley Farmer's Table probably once a month, usually for a special lunch treat. The burgers with whatever mushroom gravy devilry they put on there are outstanding. Mr. LPython is also a fan of the reuben, although I think the bread is usually a little overgrilled for my taste. We've also been there two years in a row for NYE prix fixe dinner and had a fried chicken Valentine's Day there a few years ago. We are so happy RVFT is thriving in place of City Provisions, which was usually disappointing and overpriced, in our experience.

RVFT is one of my absolute favorite destinations in the Ravenswood area. I am not too well versed in the market half of their store (though I heartily recommend the Zarlengo's gelato they sell), but I have enjoyed many lovely meals under their roof. The burgers are spot on, they make outtasite chicken (either fried or Amish-brick style), and have a very deft touch with whatever seafood dishes they have on special. Don't sleep on the fried mushroom and pickle appetizer, one of their signature dishes. They also serve my absolute favorite salad in the city: fried green tomatoes dredged in cornmeal with poached eggs and shoestring potatoes, topped with a piquant dressing they call "cherry bomb". They are also very family friendly, and have a generous variety of meals on the kids menu, that is free when paired with an adult entree purchase. This place is on my short list of places I show off to out-of-town guests.
    We crack us up.

I'm less familiar with their dining room, but these reviews are making me want to investigate. Their market is one I frequent though, their prices on mushrooms are barely higher than the average grocery store and the quality (and selection) is fantastic. They occasionally have half off sales for the shrooms too, which makes them a steal.
