Looking for best/closest. Can anyone vouch for something?

India House. Grand between Dearborn and Clark.

Interesting aside about India House- many (maybe 1/3-1/2) of the TripAdvisor reviews are from Indian businesspeople who went while in Chicago for work. The reviews consistently praise the food but bitch about high prices. I know mainland Chinese, for some reason, seek out Chinese food in the US (I'm sure mostly to their disappointment). Didn't expect the same from Indians. Maybe they are simply more likely to review a Desi place.

It is delicious, but it is more Pakistani than Indian (they are close but you will find beef dishes). Also, it's nowhere near the sort of dining experience one traditionally expects before going to the symphony. Extremely casual. But cheap and delicious.

CSO and Indian? Sounds like a great night. What are you seeing?

If a 10 minute cab ride is close enough, consider Jaipur.

We've been to India House on East Ontario. Servicable renditions of classic Northern Indian standards. Not great, but good enough, and served in a white tablecloth setting. Food is definitely in the key of Bb Major.

Second on Chicago Curry House. The one in Dearborn Park is about a 15-minute walk from CSO. I usually stick to the Nepalese specialties when I'm there, and I have not been disappointed so far.
