Long-time lurker here with my first post.... Which place do you prefer for Korean BBQ? And do I need reservations at either? We'll be a party of 6.

    Welcome LisaSue!

I'm partial to both SSGS or another GNR, Gogi (http://gogichicago.com/)

SSGS doesn't take reservations as far as I know and I think Gogi only does for larger parties--but a quick look online will answer the question. I love them both but give a slight edge to Gogi for the quality of their meat.

    Enjoy and report back!!

FWIW, I think SSGS in Morton Grove uses gas under its burners, vs. the charcoal (which I prefer) at the Lincoln Square version of SSGS (and at Gogi). SSGS is known for its excellent variety of panchan, apparently not so much Wooil.

Glad you mentioned that --I've never been to Morton Grove SSGS --or Wooil for that matter.

Just happened to have a quick dinner last night at SSGS/Morton Grove. Bi bim bap, spicy miso soup, steamed rice, and 'only' six banchan. With two people it's about 15--the little dishes fill the table.

The bi bim bap was in the requisite metal bowl, with all the vegetable goodies, including pea shoots, spinach and shiitake mushrooms. Perfect amount of beef, perfect proportions. $8.95, a great deal.

The place is cavernous--you don't go for atmosphere. Quality is top-notch.

    Neither.
As Posted SSGS uses gas, brought three coals to our table. i looked at my son and said how do we cook with that! A few seconds later a flame appeared as my son found the gas control.
At Wooil, just gas and no heat. Explained that we did not want the Western version but they didn't listen. chicken was brought to the table not seasoned at all. Sauces provided were bland.
Just up the road is the Grill on the Rock.
Gas again and it took well into our dinner to get lettuce leaves and garlic spears for wraps even though i asked repeatedly!
    Green oinion, never appeared!
Servers insisted on cooking for us! (Party of 8).
Go to the SSGS on Western AV.-Richard
