I was in Evanston on Thurs night and noticed that the Philly's Best location there is closed, signage is still up but everything has been gutted from the restaurant.
I did absolutely nothing and it was everything I thought it could be.

Philly's Best closed the Evanston location when they opened a new location on Sheridan in Rogers Park about about a year ago. However, as I saw last week, that location has also now closed.

While I've always enjoyed the sandwiches I got at Philly's Best - although it has been years - I've also been reluctant to call them true "cheesesteaks". The meat always seemed a bit too close to IB-style and my favorite version, on garlic bread, definitely isn't representative of anything I ate growing up in the Philly area. A fine sandwich, but for me not really a cheesesteak.

I've been pretty happy with the steaks I've gotten here on my way back towards the city from points west:

I haven't given the hoagies a try, but they look authentic as well. Amoroso's is supposedly involved and they use D&W meats.
