Located on 47th street just west of Western this place caught my eye with it's mention of Tacos de Canasta and a large basket sitting out in front of the store. It's owned by a young couple and the male went to culinary school.

No way I wasn't going to stop in so I did so and got a few to go which I should've known better. Tacos de Canasta or "Basket Tacos" are steamed and can be a little messy when eaten with bare hands. Anyways I enjoyed the trio and stopped back in last weekend with the intent of dining in.

All tacos are $1 and anywhere from 5-8 if not more are in-store for someone who's hungry. So you might as well start with one of each. I've tried them all and enjoy each one of them though I'm always more partial to things with meat rather than without. They're made to order, with the tortillas and fillings already steaming. A tad bit of red chile sauce goes on the mini tortillas before they're filled and then topped with some potent grilled onions. At $1 each these are some tasty (and cheap) little treats. However when I asked where the tortillas were from and he told me Sysco I was kind of shocked. I guess the steaming of them somewhat hides that fact. Either way, the fillings are fantastic and the tamales some of the best I've had. It has the feels of a place seeking expansion and they're looking around Fullerton and Western for their next spot. Wouldn't be surprised if this is the city's next mini taco empire.

Stoked to try this place out. Probably going tomorrow on my day off before day drinking at Stanleys on 43rd. Its a blessing living so close to so many great Mexican spots.

What did you think of Gorditas La Tia Susy? Loved the burritos de desebrada there. Got 2 of them and ate them inside, got another 4 to go and brought them to Bridgeport Inn.

Also, me and the lady went over to the Super Mall of Midway a few weeks ago to get some cheap t-shirts for myself. They have a food court as soon as you enter to the left. I wasnt hungry at the time, but she got a "quesadilla" with mushrooms. This thing was a deep fried puff of deliciousness with a bunch of oozing cheese and marinated mushrooms. A bunch of people where eating there and everything was looking really good. Completely forgot what the name of the little restaurant was called, but ill be going back soon. Its a little spooky in there, but whatever, im used to all that at this point.

Stopped in over the weekend and loved the place. The namesake of the restaurant works the cash register and is very charismatic. He was switching between English and Spanish with such ease it felt like a new language.

We also tried one of each and the quality was high across the board. I particularly enjoyed the molito taco which is a weekend special. All the fillings are made with care. The beans are fluffy, the potatoes are light, the chicharrons are tender. Next time I'd probably do multiples of my favorites, but there wasn't a dud in the bunch. Also loved the contrasting earthy salsa verde and tart escabeche that served as table condiments.

I definitely picked up the expansion vibe as well and I can see this idea succeeding. If the Western and Fullerton rumor is true, this will become a regular stop for us. This taco format could do well on the bar circuit as a competitor to the tamale guy. Great find Da Beef!
