Best biscuits & gravy in Chicago, especially in Lincoln Park

I visit my son often in Chicago and would love to find a good place that serves great biscuits & gravy. He lives in Lincoln Park so something close would be nice but not a deal-breaker.

Sweet Maple Cafe on Taylor.

Not in Lincoln Park, but I had some great biscuits and gravy at Revolution Brewing Company in Logan Square two weeks ago. It's about a 10 minute drive or so, but worth it for the buttermilk biscuits, thick gravy with big chunks of sausage and crispy panchetta.

Also not Lincoln Park, but not far. Tweet on Sheridan and Carmen does great biscuits and gravy with locally-sourced Amish sausage and also offers a vegetarian version.

I really like the version in Longman and Eagle. Not TOO far from Lincoln Park (depending on where you are in LP).

My vote is for Hollywood Grill on North and Ashland

I have not tried the many suggestions above, nor have I made a comprehensive sampling of Chicago's offerings of biscuits & gravy, so I literally cannot suggest that this is the "best" example in town; but I am perfectly pleased by the biscuits & gravy served at Two Way Grill, located at Pulaski and Elston, and consider them my preferred option for the dish,based on my limited experience with the product. They know to bake the biscuits at regular intervals, not just one big batch at 5:00 a.m. set in a foil-covered pan to turn into brickbats. I have actually been told my order would take an extra five minutes or more, because the biscuits were not out of the oven. Biscuits are rolled and cut, somewhere between a plop and a cat's head. Theirs is the artisanal approach. The gravy has the right ingredients, although it is on the bland side. I add salt and hot sauce to adjust the flavor profile "sur la table." Also improved by ordering with two eggs over easy or up and runny; they know to ask if you want the eggs on top or on the side (with the implicit preferred choice being on top). Good prices, open 24 hours, although biscuits & gravy are only served in the morning hours.

Having gone to school in both southern Illinois and southern Indiana...white sausage gravy, and buttermilk biscuits in their essence should be simple and unhealthy but oh so good...Places that I have had this pristine combination would be either S&G on Lincoln at Wellington, or Jerry's Grill on Montrose at Western...S&G (for those who do not know) is definetly a greasy spoon but Jerry's is a dive and greasier...Both places with the simple form of the dish...Just add some Tabasco and its heaven on a plate....Enjoy!

I'll be returning to Chicago for a visit early in June (lst time in way too many years), my diner of choice was the Two-Way at Pulaski & Elston. I realize that the original is long gone but I really need to get my biscuits & gravy fix while I'm back in town. Need a rec for someplace that serves something comparable?

It's not in Lincoln Park, but the biscuits and gravy at Tweet in Uptown are some of the best I've had in the region.

Check out the Biscuit Man at the Long Room, great biscuits house made jams, terrific coffee and, I am assuming, wonderful gravy. I say assume as I've not had the combo there, but Zeeshan Shah is an obsessively wonderful cook and I can't imagine his gravy being anything but delicious.

Weirdly I've never had BangBang biscuits and gravy either, though I'd most certainly agree their biscuits are stellar.

I need to expand my B & G horizons beyond ten stool old school diners.

Best I can tell the place that replaced Two Way implemented the latter's menu almost item for item. The Diner Grill on Irving Park just west of Ashland does a serviceable version too.

Gravy at Biscuit Man is not sausage gravy, he offers two types: a bacon gravy and a mushroom gravy. I love mushrooms but having never had bacon gravy, that is what I chose, with a fried egg on top. Very enjoyable.

I did try a biscuit w/a side of tomato jam. Jam was quite tasty. I would have preferred a biscuit that I pull apart. Instead the biscuit had been halved and toasted.

I see a biscuit & gravy tour in my future. Thanks to all the recommendations!!

Hello all! This is tooting our own horn but we offer Biscuits and Gravy as a side with one biscuit or entree with 2 biscuits - gravy and 2 eggs any style. We have had many compliments about how traditional it is.. I learned how to make the gravy from my grandmother down in Kansas so I grew up on this stuff.. Hope to see some folks at Pearls Southern Comfort. We serve Brunch Saturday and Sunday 10am-3pm.
