Okay, at the last Evanston Lunch Group™ we discussed going to either Bluestone or Symphony, both on Central Street in Evanston. But there wasn’t a lot of enthusiasm for either.

And, as nxtasy pointed out, Evanston recently got its first Venezuelan restaurant, La Cocinita, at 1625 Chicago Ave (next door to the recently closed Tsim Sha Tsui Hot Pot Café, which the group visited in March 2015). Its location was also home to the recently closed Greek Fire Grill. So, given the track record of restaurants in that stretch of Chicago Avenue (which would also include the recently closed Dave’s Italian Kitchen), it might be a good idea to give it a little support, and hope it lasts.

So, I’ve made an “executive decision” (whatever that means) that whoever can make it may convene with us at La Cocinita Wednesday May 25th at 12:30 pm. Bring an appetite for arepas and other versions of Venezuelan street food.

Toast, as every breakfaster knows, isn't really about the quality of the bread or how it's sliced or even the toaster. For man cannot live by toast alone. It's all about the butter. -- Adam Gopnik

It was really nice meeting people who I only knew through posts here!! And the food was terrific too. I really appreciate this place because they have made it vegetarian friendly. Most Island and Latin american food is not; and the owners here have taken extra care to provide for the grazers.

And it is also nice that they really know how to deep fry. All their stuff is crisp; without the oily, gloppy mess that deep frying badly can lead to. Arepas foreva!!
