Had a pretty ordinary lunch (first visit) here last week. There was nothing particularly notable or distinctive about the corned beef and pastrami sandwiches, cole slaw, beef barley soup or potato pancakes. Everything was very standard-issue and nothing really stood out for me as being special. Service was friendly, though not overly helpful. I think that if you drove any length to visit Burt's Deli, you'd probably end up disappointed. If you're in the area, as I was, it *might* be worth a stop.

It's probably also worth noting that even though there is seating, it's limited and there's no bathroom for paying customers.

Since I live in Libertyville, I've been to Burt's several times. I would have to concur with ronnie_suburban's review. I have tried the Yummy and didn't care for it as much as the more traditional sandwiches. Of course that's just personal taste. While Burt's is the closest Jewish deli, when I get a craving for a BIG corned beef sandwich and great bowl of motzo ball soup, I make the trek to Max and Benny's in Northbrook.

I had my first Yummy today. It liked it a lot. Although the Eisenberg Corned Beef and Pastrami that Burt's uses will never be confused with anything served at 2nd Avenue Deli or Langers, it was better than the standard Vienna stuff. I don't get to that area all that often, but the next time I go to Burt's, I'll be getting a Yummy without the cheese. I thought the horseradish and mustard were all the sandwich needed.

I've lived in the area for awhile. I gave Burt's 2 chances in the early 90's and again in the late 90's. I always thought it was just ok to average, except for the service. I found it to be below average, bordering rude.
