I'll be picking up a friend from Midway on Friday at 9:30pm. By the time we make it out of the airport, it will probably be close to 10-10:30pm. Are there any places that will still be serving food at that hour? It doesn't need to be fancy, but someplace where we can sit down. We're both pretty open to any genre of food. Thank you!

My traditional go to recently when going to Midway is GNR Spicy Thai Lao, which seems to be open until 11:45 on Friday. It is very good (though true to its name it is quite spicy) and extremely affordable. It has very little in the way of ambiance, being in a strip mall, but it has some of the friendliest staff you will meet.

How close to the airport does it need to be? And if not close to the airport, what direction are you going?

Giordano's at 63rd and Cicero is a half mile south of the terminal, and is open till 1 a.m. on Friday nights. Stuffed pizza.

If you're looking for a place between Midway and downtown, Dusek's in Pilsen is open till 2 a.m. Trendy American cuisine.

And if you're headed from Midway to the suburbs, Bella Bacino's in LaGrange is open till 11 p.m. Italian.

Chinatown is another late night destination.

Thanks for the suggestions! We'll be heading back towards Hyde Park. My initial plan was to go to Promontory or A10, but the timing might be tight and I wanted to have some back up options in case her flight is delayed. And depending on how hungry she is getting off the plane.

FYI - On Friday and Saturday night, they are open until midnight. From the way it is stated on the door, they expect to leave the premises by midnight.

Good point. For late-night dining, if you're cutting it close, you may want to verify what a restaurant means when they give their hours. Sometimes it's pretty clear. For example, if you see (such as on Opentable) that they take a reservation for a given time, that means they will still seat you at that time. Or they may indicate how late the kitchen stays open, such as on Dusek's website, which says they're open till 2 a.m. and "food available till 1 a.m.". If you're not sure, phone them and ask. Better to know in advance, than to show up late at night and find them closed or unwilling to seat you.
