Bagnet -- any in Chicagoland?

Post #1 - July 24th, 2016, 6:54 pmJust read this post about bagnet -- a dish from Ilocos in the Philippines -- deep-fried pork belly. I feel the need to track this down -- but preferrably without having to fly overseas. Anyone run into this anywhere in the general Chicagoland region?

Post #2 - July 25th, 2016, 7:08 amI'm not sure there's anything in the area called bagnet, but it is quite similar to lechon kawali which is most definitely served at La Isla Pilipina and other places around town. My understanding is that bagnet is identical, except with a longer, slower, and sometimes repeated frying. Lechon kawali is so good we had it catered from La Isla for my wedding this past weekend! Heart-stopping goodness: when you eat it, they say you'll live a happy life, but a short one.
