I thought I'd heard it all. Watching the news this morning and saw an ad for Jimmy Dean Delights Frittatas. It's great because it's made "with real ingredients." Not healthy ingredients, not low cal or low fat ingredients, mind you. Just "real ingredients."

It's not that difficult to hypothesize a restaurant serving nothing but imaginary ingredients. Designer plates (of course) with nothing on them ... "Let your imagination run wild!" ... Hmmmm -The Progression is already taken, perhaps call it One Step Beyond?

Of course this idea won't appeal to closed-minded people who are afraid to try new things.

I posted about this on a FB food writers site. Drives me crazy. The two I've seen are Country Crock and Hellman's Mayo -- both made with "real ingredients."

Frito-Lay is running a passport-themed, totally non-Olympics-related edition of some Lay's chips. I don't normally buy myself chips but the 'Chinese Szechuan Chicken' and 'Indian Tikki Masala' (kettle-type) caught my eye and Mariano's had them for $2.50/bag. I went with the Szechuan and popped them open this afternoon. I've gotta say, they're better than I expected. There's something in there that really does remind the tongue of American-Chinese takeout. I was checking the ingredients for some insight and had to laugh at "Natural Szechuan Wok Type Flavor."
