The Journeyman is a regular stop when we are in SW Michigan. We talked our way in the first time, before they were officially open to the public several years ago. Really cool space and the cocktails are always really good.

Never had anything to eat prior to yesterday afternoon. I had the El Diablo (salami, fried egg, and cheddar, with avocado aioli on a pretzel bun) to go along with my Boulevardier. A delicious sandwich. My buddy also loved his pulled pork sandwich.

Journeyman Distillery, a popular spot with a tasting room in Three Oaks, Mich., in the heart of second-home country for many Chicagoans, is opening a restaurant called Staymaker.

They are taking over the north side of the building which looks to be at least as big as what they have. One of the bartenders told us they will also have another bar, larger than the current one, besides the restaurant and more production facilities.

This should really help their tasting room business since Three Oaks can use some additional restaurants. If they can get decent live music in there regularly, with a good restaurant and nice bar, they could be the strongest evening option in the area currently.

It is a shame Journeyman and The Acorn Theater (one of my favorite live music venue anywhere) next store have yet to find a way to have a symbiotic relationship.

Try to stop for at least a cocktail on every visit, several times a year, and never disappointed.

Nice lunch at the bar in Staymaker on Friday. Slower than expected for the first Friday in August.

Really enjoyed The Chain, High Garden, and a Lavender Gimlet. The amaretto overpowered the Windy Harbor. Good house made pickles, barley burger, and braised red cabbage. Hand cut fries, were good , not great.

Hope to see more vegetarian and vegan options on the menu.
