We got a couple 1/4 pieces for carryout from Union Squared last night. This is the "Detroit style" pizza place run by Union Pizzeria and located in a little storefront a few doors north of Union on Chicago Ave in Evanston.

Turns out you can eat it there and they have a couple large communal tables, a few wines and Temperance and Sketchbook beers on tap. You can also order it delivered to both of those tap rooms. They also are in the new Revival Food Hall downtown.

We got the wild mushroom, fontina, leeks and walnut pesto piece and the supreme piece with mozz, brick, sausage, mushroom, onion, green pepper with red sauce on top. Both were tasty, if a tad expensive a $8-9 a 1/4 pie and $20-25 for whole. Also on the menu is a pepperoni pizza and a quatro formaggi one.

The crusts were very light and airy with super crunchy sides and corners. Kind of like what in Chicago passes for bakery pan pizza but with a lighter crust and different toppings in different layerings. Some of the pies have the tomato sauce added on top after it bakes, which is strange, but it worked. (Ive never had Detroit pizza before.)

Definitely going to go back (or order in from a tap room) and try the other two pies another time.
