I thought Green Dolphin Street closed, but when we drove by yesterday the sign was lit and there was clearly staff around. This morning I saw that they reconcepted in 2015 as Rio Chicago, and that's the last article I could find. After scanning the website, it looks like this is back to GDS, but it's basically an empty event space? Anybody know the story?

GDS closed many years ago after a slew of shootings and stabbings, reopened shortly after with new owners as Dolphin, and got shut down by the city last year after another bout of shootings and stabbings that culminated in a double homicide. Then someone else decided to try their luck with that accursed place, which is where we are today.

Fizz bar on Lincoln just North of Belmont has closed, according to DNAInfo. What a sad stretch that bit of Lincoln from Belmont to Roscoe is now with many vacancies. Can't wait for Bareburger to open and add more life back to the street.

Was Fizz good? The way it looked from the street never called out to me, but you can't tell a book by its cover.

It was fine. I was informed that the building is being torn down to build new condos.

One of the last of a dying breed (at least in or near the city limits), Seven Brothers Pancake House, 9300 Waukegan Rd in Morton Grove, has been sold. It's now Gail's Carriage Grove. Evidently the Gail's people own 6 other restaurants in the burbs. They plan an extensive menu expansion...especially in the breakfast offerings. I consider this to be good news for us breakfast lovers.

Their original was "Gail's Carriage Inn", they also have "Gail's Carriage Way" and "Gail's Carriage Place". This is the first one that references its location, Morton Grove.

A new and much-needed eatery on the 606 has just opened, part of the transformation of a long boarded up block of Milwaukee. The Stopalong has pizza, burgers, salads, and ice cream, and a video arcade vibe at 1812 N Milwaukee.

Fizz was very good. It was(|is ~ go there before I re-edit it) on my regular bookmark page.
I didn't know Fizz was that close to closing. I would have offered to show something there which would potentially entice patrons.
But that block of Lincoln Av. is still pretty good with Northdown and the Green Lady.

Am I hot, or am I hot? :P
I decided to go a sexpositive event in Bridgeport at a venue which honestly has average food. Instead of having to actually consume something there, I rerouted myself to the Red|Brown|Purple line "L" station at Belmont | Sheffield.
I was going to have ramen @ Ramenster at 919 W. Belmont. Its ramen isn't great, but it was OK, and it would have tided me over for the evening.
Remember what happened to me at Strings 2 on N. Halsted?
    Yes. It happened again.
It has closed. Don't go there.
I wound up having a Kimchi burger from BopNGrill next door @ 921. That was OK. Its french fries need more attention. Sorry, no photo.

I have friends who would go dance there (they used to have swing dance upstairs Monday nights at 9 or so). There was a small cover charge, because the dancers didn't drink much.

From the Daily Herald.... Grillhouse By David Burke in Schaumburg closes:

Grillhouse By David Burke, the second effort at a restaurant in the sprawling, 22,000-square-foot building originally occupied by Entourage at 1301 American Lane in Schaumburg, closed this week.

Grillhouse -- fronted by celebrity chef David Burke -- provided hope of a second lease of life for the former Entourage building when it opened in late 2014.

By that time, the building had been vacant for almost as long as the 4½ years it had been occupied by Entourage, from February 2006 to August 2010.

Burke contacted the Daily Herald in July to say that he was no longer involved in the restaurant and was trying to get his name taken off it.

A representative of David Burke's Primehouse in Chicago -- which is still open -- said Friday that it no longer was affiliated with Burke and had never been affiliated with the Schaumburg restaurant.

Burke could not immediately be reached for comment Friday. Neither could the current ownership.
