No, I'm not talking about voodoo. I believe this is some kind of fish but I have probably spelled the name incorrectly. Google only gives me results related to voodoo. I would like to find more information on this food ingredient.
    Not voodoo food.

    Thanks!

I so hope it's the vundu fish you're looking for. That would be extra-LTH.
I was chuffed to learn "Its barbels nearly reach to the origin of the pelvic fin."

That is SO absolutely correct. I can't thank you enough! I figured this would be the right palace to go. This board is great!

Now, where do I go to find it?

I've gotta change the title of the post. Give me a day or so. I'm busy.

Are you looking for fresh (frozen) or cured vundu? If you can tell us what you're trying to make, and maybe what part of the world the recipes are from, we might be able to be more helpful. I think I've seen smoke-dried catfish from Africa at La Fruteria (though maybe not very recently). I think that might be it at the right of this awful old photo.

Even if that's catfish, I'm not sure it's one of the African air-breathers, but I wouldn't be surprised. For non-cured, I'd check the freezers in the meat and fish room, but I have no idea if it might be in there. The guys behind the meat and fish counter (not to mention the customers) are generally extremely friendly and helpful. Great store.

If a South Asian air-breathing catfish would do, check the Bangladeshi fish markets off Devon. I believe similar fish are common in Bengal and Bangladesh, so it wouldn't be surprising to find it in these shops. There's some pretty exotic stuff in those freezers. You can see both Fish Corner and Devon Fish House advertise catfish on their outside signs, but don't specify further.
