    Chicago Foodways Roundtable presents

    Contemporary Homesteading and Community Building:
    Community Gardens and Food Swapping

    Presented by
    LaManda Joy,
Founder of Peterson Gardens and author of Start A Community Garden
    and
    Emily Paster,
Founder of Chicago Swap and author of Food Swap

This program will feature two speakers, who each define an element of back-to-basics home-centric lifestyles.

When we first encountered LaManda Joy in 2010, she was discussing “Chicago Victory Gardens: Yesterday and Tomorrow” reflecting an increased interest in vegetable gardening not seen in this country since World War II. The very next day, LaManda visited her Alderman hoping to revive a Victory Garden located on Petersen Avenue. This small step has blossomed into an educational not-for-profit with books, educational programming, six Pop-up Victory garden locations and a community cooking school.

LaManda Joy’s talk will highlight what she learned starting this community food gardening adventure from the ground up.

Next up will be Emily Paster — co-founder of the Chicago Food Swap, one of the biggest in the world — who offers her experience on setting up a food swap as well as inspiring stories from people who are part of this growing movement.
Books will be available for sale and signing.

This program is hosted by the Chicago Foodways Roundtable. To reserve, please e-mail: chicago.foodways.roundtable@gmail.com
