Little Beet Table, the healthy gluten-free restaurant from NYC, had a soft opening the other night at their new Chicago location at 845 N State St.

They haven't even advertised anywhere that they're open yet so there weren't a lot of people in there, but some. Obviously some kinks to work out with service, but the food was actually pretty good. I ended up having some cauliflower hummus (which might be sacrilege to some people) that was actually very good. Also had some pasta that was above average. The desserts - tres leches cake was actually really good as was this one dessert with coconut cream and fruit. I had a few cucumber lemonades which was refreshing and pretty good. They have cocktails, beer, and wine but are waiting on the liquor license. Until they get it, they're BYOB.

I'm not going to say this is a place you should go to from miles away - but so far it seemed like a solid choice if you are downtown and need a good meal. It's not cheap - not super expensive either, so beware of that. Entrees run in the $20s and $30s - smaller plates are more like $10-$15.

Perhaps a carry over from the NYC menu lingo that they forgot to change. One lady did mention that they are trying to use as much in the way off local Chicago area ingredients as they can. Obviously this is not one of them.

The food was pretty good - that's all I care about. To each their own.

The Atlantic Ocean is 10-11 hours away from Chicago by auto. That's local? WTF are you smoking?

Local fish to this area would include whitefish, walleye, sturgeon, gar, carp and others.

Local ocean. Really? Norfolk, Charleston, Boston, Baltimore, Chicago. Which one of these cities is nowhere close to the Atlantic?

    Sigh.

Yes. Yes, you are correct. The Atlantic Ocean is far away from Chicago. That is a true thing.

I personally find the eleven-buck pea guacamole more upsetting. What's the point of that? It's not as if avocados are laced with gluten. Jesus.
