As a daily visitor to the Sheridan L station, I have passed by Taqueria Caminos de Michoacan countless times. Recently, 2 rather encouraging hand-scrawled signs went up in the window:

"Tenemos - FIN DE SEMANA - Menudo, Mole, Pozole"

"Para los platillos tenemos tortillas hechas a mano"

It will still be a little while before I get the chance to stop in (though I will certainly do so on a weekend) - anyone have any experience with the place?

I appreciate Taqueria Caminos de Michoacan mainly for their late hours and proximity to the El. My orders there are usually limited to an after-midnight torta to go. With that I've been fairly pleased but not blown away. I noticed those new signs but haven't been there on a weekend or ordered any of the dinners. Why not give them a try especially if you pass by every day? I, for one, would be interested in hearing a report.

If I'm in the neighborhood and want more than a taco or torta I usually go around the corner to El Palmar on Irving Park, a pretty decent place but probably not worth a special trip (they also keep late hours). I've enjoyed the pulpo a la diabla and cordoniz en salsa verde. I don't think El Palmar does a particularly notable job with tortas.

I used to live at Sheridan and Irving Park, and my preference is for Tacos Michoacan versus El Palmar.

The chicken tacos are outstanding - bits of tender dark meat chicken mixed with onion, garlic and cilantro. I'm sure there's other good things on the menu, but I loved these tacos so much I rarely got past them!
