Eat Purely is a new meal delivery service that is serving up restaurant quality meals, one meal at a time in as little as 20 minutes...the drivers are already out there roaming their delivery areas. instant gratification never tasted so good!! i've never been interested in a meal delivery service before- i dont want to order multiple meals, or decide in advance what i want to eat and i want high quality ingredients. so when a friend passed on a link to EP, with a $20 credit applied to the very first order, it would have been crazy not to try it. EP offers local, organic ingredients and the dishes are inventive, substantial and delicious. i've been very impressed and have ordered 4 times already. the selection is limited to about 4-5 dishes/day. vegan, vegetarian and a couple of meat or chicken dishes come in compostable cardboard bowls (and a housemade chocolate comes with each order). i've had lamb curry; pork shoulder w/lima beans; roast chicken with corn on a white bean puree; and last night a fantastic dinner of grilled medium rare steak, true baby carrots, and swiss chard. you won't be disappointed if you give this company a try- not all neighborhoods are available at this point- i'm in logan square and i know ukrainian village is also covered. each friend you refer who tries it also gets a $20 credit. this generosity seems unsustainable for the company until you see how good the food is and then you might be hooked, like i am....you've been warned.

I'm confused...how does this differ from a restaurant that delivers?

I was wondering the same thing. Does this service deliver ready to eat meals (which your post seems to imply), in which case it doesn't seem very different from restaurant delivery, or does it deliver ingredients that you need to prepare yourself?

Per their website, it looks as if every day meals are prepared centrally - organic, local, etc. ingredients used - then chilled and loaded on delivery vehicles which cruise around assigned areas so that one is never more than 20 minutes away from a location in their area.

Looks like you have to have an app for the thing, though - no ordering via PC or other stone-age methods. :(

i order from my computer, not my phone. i'm sorry if i didnt make it clear that EP delivers fully cooked meals that just need to be reheated right in the compostable dish. how is it different from a restaurant? i never said it was.... but unlike a restaurant, the menu is limited to a few items. and the food comes as quickly as 20 minutes, or within a time frame you pick , between 4-9pm.

EP was in the lobby of my building last week. I didn't have time to stop but from talking to other residents they were quite happy with the meals they bought from them and said they intended to make ordering from them part of their routine.

This sounds a lot like a Bay Area concept called Bento. This did not work at all and they are now a catering company. It's very good food and it seems like the catering business will succeed but the on demand thing with guys driving around with food already made and ready to deliver failed hard. I hope these guys do better.

It's also similar to Sprig, which entered and exited Chicago without much fanfare. I'm clearly not their intended market so I can't weigh the merits/deficiencies from that perspective, but it seems like there's an extremely long path to profitability in an area thick with all sorts of competition.

It seems like that business model would be a good fit for a food truck. All they would need to do is park the truck in a busy area and add a delivery car for those that didn't want to or couldn't get to the truck. Come to think of it, teaming up with Uber Eats could be a good fit.

No, you didn't say it was different from a restaurant. Your comparison to a meal delivery service threw me, because restaurants don't require you to order multiple meals or decide in advance what you want to eat. I guess I didn't (and still don't) understand what benefits it offers over any of the hundreds of restaurants that also offer delivery.

why not order from them and see if you like it? i don't know of any chicago restaurant where you could get such a delicious meal (protein, starch, vegetables) made mostly from local and organic ingredients at such a reasonable price point.
