Thanks Panther! (and Brad for sharing). We can be the south-east Asia corner :)
Nik's actually got some home made fermented Thai sausage, so we can bring some for a starter.

Alright, so there is a small Thai Town/Southeast Asian Village happening . . . awesome!

Rich, Max, and I will be there tomorrow.

I'm making a Thai-style apple salad. Rich is making butter mochi.

    Can't wait,

Nametags and food labels will be printed early tomorrow morning. If you come later, you get to hand write! You are allowed a last minute inspiration to just show up, it's quite ok!

For those wondering what to bring, here are a few suggestions:

    - While we have considerable adult beverages, it would be nice to have some non-alcohol beverages. Coke, diet Coke, Sprite, something along those lines.
    - A few bags of ice for beverages
    - A container of baby wipes to clean off hands
    - Cups -- I will bring a motley crew of plastic cups. If you have an odd number of cups leftover, bring it.
    - Already have a number of six-inch plates. A package of 100 dinner plates will fit the bill. I now have enough plates.

Noticing the plea for non-alcoholic beverages, I found in the beer cellar 12 remnant cans of regular Coca-Cola. It is what was left of a 24-pack.
Ummm, how do I scribe this? :| This is what my dad drank [R.I.P.]. When I drink sodas, I go for the variants of the line, e.g.: Cherry Coke, Vanilla Coke, Caffeine Free Coca-Cola ~ but nothing diet. As such, these cans of Coca-Cola are out of code. But then, that should really only matter if it was a diet soda.
I'll have two dessert items: Caramel-covered apples, and a plate of cookies.
I will need somebody's cooler space for the canned beer I'm bringing. :) I don't expect us to consume all of it, but it would be good if we get an amount of each brand chilled.

I just got home from a long weekend, late flight in. I'll be there, and will bring something to contribute to the mini thai town that BR is keeping alive. Probably longbean som tum, and something with bitter gourd. I stole the long bean som tum idea from Wanpen at rainbow, it was so good! I have lots of bitter gourd growing in my garden, so it'll be fresh!

What a great day. The weather was perfect, the conversations were interesting, and the food was sensational. Of course, this is when I start looking over the lists of people and dishes and wondering how I missed some of both. But it really was a splendid day and it was fun seeing old friends, making new friends, and sampling some amazing goodies. Thanks so much for all who contributed so much to making it a success.

As is always the case, a fantastic picnic. Cathy, are you the one who made a deal with the devil to ensure the always perfect weather? Anyway, thanks for organizing and thanks to everyone for the delicious food and conversation...I always enjoy meeting a few new people every year.

Luckily, Thai Town (or Southeast Asian village) ended up coming together quite nicely . . . my beef heart nam tok, Clelamatron's wonderful satay, laikom's fantastic bitter gourd with egg and somtum with longbean, REB's Thai-style apple salad (want recipe!) and RAB's awesome butter mochi. And what better to wash it down with than some beer and Panther in the Den's awesome mai tais!

Now what to do for the next 300+ days!?!?

Another lovely picnic! REB's Thai apple salad and the salt-and-pepper cookies were two things that happily surprised me with their unexpected flavor combos. So many terrific treats and wonderful conversations! And now I can say I've tried iguana.

Thank you, Cathy2, and everyone who pitched in to make this happen!
