    Hey all,

I'm visiting a friend who has had a long stay at NW Hospital and I'd like bring her something unique and delicious for dinner. I work in the Loop now, and haven't spent time in Streeterville in 6 years. Any recommendations for good takeout to cheer someone up who has been eating hospital food for the last 3 weeks?

    Thanks,

    Habibi/Marwan

I'm hearing great things about the new-ish Robert's Pizza. That might be a nice treat. This guy sounds really serious about his dough.

I haven't had Sayat Nova in some time, but that's convenient. I also just dined at GreenRiver this past weekend. I wouldn't expect takeout to be their thing, but it never hurts to inquire. Also, Eataly is not really very far from there. Donuts from Do-Rite for dessert.

Whatever you end up choosing, I'm sure your friend will be thrilled that it's not hospital food.

Thanks BR, I was considering Sayat Nova, but Eataly and Robert's sound like really good options. Especially Eataly, because I can pick up a bunch of meats, cheeses, etc. for a fun assortment of eats.

We have brought take out into Lurie from Ramen Misoya, 213 East Ohio and from Coco Pazzo Café, 636 N. St. Clair. You can also pick up desert from Hendrickx Bakery 100 E. Walton.

Inside the web of buildings connected to these hospitals there is, among others, a Beatrix with a take out buffet and a Saigon Sisters.

I asked Big and Littles if they deliver to the hospitals and they said yes. Haven't tried that, so can't vouch on how long delivery would take.

I second the Coco Pazzo suggestion. When I was laid up in the hospital, my brother used to bring me pasta from Coco Pazzo. It was always the highlight of the week for me. Also, in one of the buildings connected to the hospital via walkway is Green River, which I understand is pretty good.

Green River or Volaro are both worth your while.

There's also Dao, which is decent Ameri-Thai, but the Beatrix buffet is pretty good for upscale takeout, with lots of cold vegetarian choices. I wouldn't rule out the Whole Foods buffet either in a pinch, and they have sitdown for eating the buffet quicky as well. All are maybe a five minute walk from the hospital blocks.

Last time I was in the area I had a great meal at Labriola Ristorante & Café, a few blocks south of the hospital at Grand and St. Clair. The bread itself is worthy of a trip, and they're also serving the Dolinsky-celebrated Pizza Barra pizzas (I didn't order one but was drooling at the sight of the deep dish served at the next table). Plus there's a Stan's Donuts onsite for very portable treats.

I have a little experience because we seem to keep having kids at Prentice. I tried Green River this last time around and they wouldn't do take out. Too bad - that would be nice, although I find the cocktails to be the real thing there, and the food okay but not really inspiring.

I'll second the Coco Pazzo - chopped salad, antipasti, and good pastas all around. They will hit you with a bottle of wine to go also, uncorked. Nice for the hospital room dinner. I also walked up to Le Colonial this last time around - that made for a really nice change of pace, and I found a pretty decent Gruner Vetliner at Goddess on Rush to go with it.

The best thing we ever got, however, by a country mile, was the whole chicken from the Peninsula Lobby. Not sure if they have it anymore, but you can do take out from there or Shanghai - pricey but worth it. They really did a nice job with packing it too, so that it was a nice presentation even on paper/plastic on a hospital tray.

Okay, I'll say it. Winner winner, chicken dinner!

Based on The Classic sandwich that I had today for lunch, I wholeheartedly agree.

Mrs Willie has a conf/training going on this weekend 1/2 block from Northwestern University Hospital campus. We had grand plans to take the water taxi from Michigan Ave to Chinatown but after a very long day, she was in the mood for something very local.

We ended up at The Windsor @ 160 E Huron http://thewindsorchicago.com/
For the record, happy hour is from 3-6pm Mon-Fri.

    Had 3 starters:
Smoked Trout Dip - served with saltine crackers and some sliced Fresno chilies and scallions

Special of the Day starter of crisped pork belly sliders, served on sweet buns with tomato jam

K Town Short Ribs - two thin slices of grilled marinated short rib (bone in) done Korean BBQ style served with an Asian style slaw.

Each and every item was terrific, we were just pleased as could be.

I did absolutely nothing and it was everything I thought it could be.
