Lake Perch - western suburbs?

ISO a AUCE lake perch fish fry preferably in the western suburbs.... husband's birthday dinner request and I'm not finding anything unless we head to Wisconsin or Indiana!

Don't know about restaurants, but Supreme Lobster on North Ave. in Villa Park usually has Lake Perch if you want to fry your own.
Great store.

Had some pretty tasty ones at L Woods Tap (a Lettuce place) recently. It's their Friday night special and was spot on.

It's near western suburbs, but look no further than Boston Fish Market in Des Plaines. The Lake Erie Perch is awesome, as is most everything else here.

If you consider Des Plaines a western suburb (rather than a northwestern suburb), then GNR Boston Fish Market could be the place you're looking for. It's not AYCE, but the servings are very big.

Also, in Lombard there's Johnson's Door County Fish. It's more of a shrimp shack than a sit down place, but the lake perch is fantastic.

Thanks for all the great suggestions.... we live very close to Johnson's and agree that it's great! Looking for something new, so I'm leaning towards Boston Fish Market, but will let the birthday boy make the final decision!

Be advised that I don't think you can get reservations at Boston Fish Market (maybe I'm wrong), and most times during the dinner hour it is packed with lines for carry-out and for the maybe 15-20 tables in there, and for the very few outside tables. And it is casual to the nth degree--this ain't fine dining.

But the food is really, really good...

A slight correction regarding the "very few outside tables" at Boston Fish Market. We were there recently and did an informal estimation revealing the outside area will now comfortably seat upwards of 200 people. They've created a patio area that goes all the way back towards the rear of the building with enough room for 40-50 tables or more, each capable of seating 4-6 people.

OTOH, it was still packed with a longish line, and this was near closing time. AND...all of this conjecture about the outdoor seating is based on clear weather. If it's raining, none of this matters anyway.

But, if that happens, you haven't driven all that way for nothing. Des Plaines has suddenly become a restaurant lover's destination. Granted, it ain't Lake Perch, but as long as you're here, we've got two new Puerto Rican restaurants, a couple of Bulgarian joints, several other Eastern European options ranging from down and dirty diner style to higher end white table cloth experiences, a very cozy Pupuseria, a high quality Burger joint taking a run at Paradise Pup, a very good Vietnamese place in the downtown area, and a whole mess o' Taquerias. I suddenly wish we lived closer to Des Plaines... what a wide array of ethnic choices! And I have to admit, I had to google the definition of "Pupuseria";)! The last time I ate in Des Plaines was about 30 years ago when I took my daughter, then 3 years old to the Choo Choo Restaurant!
