    Hi all!
I could use some help with Chicago institutions that are still alive and kicking today, like Garrett's, for example. They even have a Chicago Mix.

What else is out there, the way Maid Rite is to Springfield, Starbucks is to Seattle, and Dunkies is to Boston? I'll take any ideas, but quick-fix yummies like doughnuts, coffee, etc. will be most helpful.

    Eli's Cheesecake
    Gene & Georgetti
    Mario's Italian Lemonade
Pizzeria Uno & Due (original locations only)
    Vienna Hot Dogs

Those are some quick ones off the top of my head. Gotta go watch the Cubs now.

Al's Beef? I'd say Johnnie's, but they're a little far out of the center.
While the beef and the hot dog (in both the Depression Minimal and Run it Through the Garden versions) are institutions, there's not so much of a single place or chain, rather the overall tradition.
