While awaiting sentencing for wire fraud and money laundering, Chicago chef and restaurateur Tony Hu is still at work expanding his Lao Sze Chuan empire. Hu, who pleaded guilty in May to dodging about $1.1 million in state taxes over a nearly five-year period, plans to open a new restaurant in Mesa, Ariz., this month, according to the Lao Sze Chuan website and two published reports.

    Hi,

Chef Tony Hu given 1 year in prison for skirting $1 million in sales taxes

"I feel such a shame for what I have done," he [Hu]said in a quiet, raspy voice. "I was very proud of my accomplishments. But now I am lost. I cannot sleep, I cannot eat, sometimes I feel like I don't want to live."
