The LTH North Lunch Group minions were in rare form during our recent stellar lunch at Bonta. They were asking me about next month's outing before our food was even brought to the table! Normally, discussion for the following month's destination (usually initiated by WillG) comes up when we're settling the check. I truly wonder if a Coup D'etat is in the works.

Assuming I haven't gotten my head whacked off, please join me on the 29th at the next outing of the LTH North Lunch Group:

On a somewhat related note - WillG has pointed out that the Mariano's just down the street has unusually good prices on outer skirt steak.

I heard that under the new regime, the first to RSVP will have first dibs on suggesting the next month's choice, so, I'm in! (even though I don't have an idea for the December outing yet) (please note the use of an exclamation point) (and I'm really just RSVPing so fast because I am curious about this new place).

p.s., Esteemed Coordinator, rest assured you are as esteemed as ever, but should there be a change in the status quo, remember how fundamental to our democracy is the peaceful transition of power   .

I know how it's gonna happen, too...

Dave: "Is this a new kind of cilantro in my banh mi? It looks quite a bit like hemlock. Oh well, there couldn't possibly be anybody here that would want to 'off' me..."

Thank goodness Katie picked up the gauntlet for December. This passive/aggressive style of leadership is reminiscent of Calvin 'Silent Cal' Coolidge.

    I be in.

(P.S. That's the outside skirt steak that Will was referring to at Mariano's...)

Ever since we got our own movie, we minions have been feeling our oats so it is only a matter of time. I suspect that the EC will retain his title, even if he is only a figurehead, because everyone knows how much minions bicker with each other.

    Anyway, I am in.

My point on the outside skirt was that it is still 9.99/lb at marianos, while it has gone up a lot at other stores around here. Also, they sell the inside skirt for 11.99/lb, which seems backwards to me, so I am kind of wondering if all marianos are the same or if the vernon hills butcher dept is just screwed up.

Wow, trying to be the first to confirm is harder than getting tickets to Hamilton or the World Series. Just in case Katie, Jay and Will fall during the revolution, count me in.

    Hi,

I plan to attend and hope nothing happens to prevent this.

I stopped by today, because I wanted a Banh Mi for tomorrow's lunch. Truth be told: I ate my lunch for tomorrow already. My speculative one-bite was so good, I just marched right through.

They make their own rolls. Whatever is not used is tossed.

I had the pate Bahn Mi, because most of their offerings are warm.

I was so impressed today, I guess I am stuck with egg salad for tomorrow.

    Regards,

My status has to change to "maybe"; I have a very bad cough that might be unwise to take outside and might be offputting to fellow diners. I will have to wait and see how I feel tomorrow.

Excellent company and Banh Mi's. The slices at the pizza place next door where we went for second lunch left much to be desired. Really poor crust.

BTW Mariano's has now at least somewhat rationalized their skirt price.....Outside is still 9.99 but inside is down to 8.99.

I'm still alive after yesterday's wonderful lunch. Thanks again to Katie for the heads up on this spot. Sorry you couldn't attend.

Good spot, comparable banh mi to Nhu' Lan on Lawrence Ave. What this place has going for it is that the fillings-to-bread ratio is right, as Will remarked. Too much bread and the whole works is dry. Umami, you know. Also, the baguettes are baked in-house, a definite plus. Will be looking forward to an expansion of the menu.

Since Dave still maintains a tenuous hold on the poobah-ship--much like Nixon's Final Days--I guess it is on him to name the December venue.

Maybe he can talk to the Presidents' paintings on the wall to get some ideas...

The way I was and still am coughing, you wouldn't have wanted me there (and no, illness is not just a ruse to cover up my coup plotting ... or is it? ::furtive sideways glance::), but I am glad to hear that you liked the banh mi. Looking forward to the next meeting with the Grand Poobah and friends (and co-conspirators).
